Weed Tax Revenue Funds First Rec Center in Colorado In 40 Years | Kannabi - The Culture of Cannabis
Colorado city uses marijuana tax revenue to open its first recreation center in 40 years.
The new recreation center is located in Aurora, CO and is now open for use. Aurora is the second largest city in Colorado and borders the city of Denver. The Central Recreation Center used $34 million dollars to build the state-of-the-art facility. The large building is about 61,000 square-feet.
Its luxurious swimming pools, a wave pool, water slides, fitness equipment, and other amenities can be accessed with a membership or a drop-in fee. Visitors can participate in fitness, cooking, swimming classes, and more. They offer after-school programs and senior activities. Individuals don’t have to live in Aurora to join the center.
The city of Aurora bought the land in 1998 specifically for the recreation center. However, this facility has been in the making for decades because of the lack of funds to build it.
With marijuana becoming legal and dispensaries popping up all over the town, the city collected a revenue from the taxes on marijuana. The city council granted a one-time fund on this project and they put every penny to use.
The legalization for marijuana is helping out small communities and cities by funding things like recreation centers.
