Over 50% of American's Think the Smell of Weed is Bad

The smell of weed in public has become a concern for over half of Americans.

A survey conducted by PSB Research, Civilized, Burson Cohn & Wolfe, and Buzzfeed News found that “nearly a quarter of the country say they hate the stench.”

While the public still supports the legalization of cannabis, they don’t want the smell around them. Cannabis has a distinct fragrance and when smoked or carried in a container that is not airtight, it is very noticeable. This can be bad for employers, meetings, or in social situations.

Majority of Americans are in favor of legalizing marijuana for medical or recreational purposes but with legalization comes the abuse of public consumption. Some states are expressing their concerns about the smell which is deterring them from moving forward.

Canadians see the smell of weed in public as a bigger problem than Americans. Buzzfeed stated that 3 in 5 Canadians think the scent of cannabis is a problem.

Whether it’s America or Canada, there are always going to be people that will be offended by something. But the bigger picture is that the legalization of cannabis is helping many medically, financially, and environmentally.

The smell of cannabis is one of the issues that can be mitigated but it shouldn’t deter someone from having access to it.
